cold hearted.

so my house is officially freezing!!! the pilot light has gone out a couple of times, but apparently it needs to be fixed and the stupid landlord (whom i still haven't met) hasn't fixed the furnace yet. my room is an icebox, and it's probably not helping me get better. i need to by a heater for my room so i don't freeze to death in the night.

It's been too long.

I know, I know! I haven't posted in a long long time. My life for the past month has been a little hectic so I haven't even thought about blogging. My car runs now. I got the new starter for it and when I picked it up from the dealer it made an awful grrrrrr (for lack of a better term) noise. Anyways, two days after that it wouldn't start. I was sooo sick of fixing it I just bummed rides for about two weeks, and then finally figured out all I needed to do was jump start it. Then the back left tire was constantly needing air, so yesterday I went and got two brand new back tires. The car has all new tires now. It still makes the grr noise but after about 3 minutes of driving it stops making it. I'm hoping the problem is minimal because I'm going to have to fix that later.
I'm all moved in to my new place. It's really nice. So far so good.
Sam comes to visit on Thursday and I have the whole weekend off. We are going to Virginia Beach to visit our friend Chelsea for Thursday and Friday night (Halloween.) Then Saturday night we are planning on going to DC to have some fun. She'll leave on Sunday. I'm so excited!!!
Other than that nothing too crazy is happening. I'm not going to make it home for Thanksgiving. This will be my fourth year away which makes me very sad, but Christmas time I should be in Kansas. This year is flying by and I wish time would just stop for a few moments so I could take a breather.
I'm also sick and I have been for almost a month now. I have a terrible cough. I went to a health center and got prescriptions for antibiotics, cough syrup, an inhaler, and some other pills but they aren't doing the trick. The doctor told me I needed to get a chest xray to make sure I didn't have pnuemonia. I need to go and do that because my cough is not going away.

It's not just the battery.

It's the starter and it's going to cost me 600 dollars.

Reliability no longer exists.

When you can't rely on your parents for help who the hell are you supposed to rely on?
I can rely on myself. But, I'm starting to realize that I'm not very reliable. Maybe I got that from my parents.

Lame

To those of you wondering... mom. No, i haven't moved into my new house yet because i have a crappy car. Tomorrow it should be fixed. Hurry, somebody else knock on wood.

Car Update

Still not fixed.
Bleh. It is getting towed in an hour to the dealership and I'm crossing my fingers that the only problem is the battery. My friend said he could install it so it should only cost me about 50 bucks. I hope that this is the end of my car problems for a while.

Karma's a female dog.

My car sucks. I should have bought a honda or toyota, but i didn't. so now i have to take it to the shop on monday. they said it was the battery even though i've tried to jump it like 5 times already. who knows? but, my insurance policy will cover the price of towing... so on monday i can get it towed to the shop for free and a new battery (if that is even the problem) will cost me like $160 or something retarded like that. Ughhhh i should have bought a honda. the guy at the dealer said that it isn't the starter which is fantastic. hopefully, he's right... knock on wood.

for the record. i have knocked on wood so many times in the past week i think it does the opposite for me now. any good karma i had has officially ran out.

Damn you Susie!

I was suppossed to move into my new house yesterday. All I have left is my clothes and bedding. SO, I packed up my car and I go to start it and nothing. Click. Nothing. It doesn't start. WTF!?!?!
Yeah. I know. I'm pissed too. I don't know what's wrong with it. Hopefully, I find out soon and hopefully it's not expensive to fix. I have no money, no bed, and I'm not having fun anymore.

When it rains, it pours.

So I fixed my tires on my car and everything was hunky dory (sp?)
Yesterday I drove it to work no problem. Then after work I hung out with some friends. I stayed the night at a friend's house and this morning when I was leaving it was raining cats and dogs. Like... we're talking flash flood here. Lots and lots of rain. Anyways, before I even got to the end of the street I hit a huge puddle of water and my car's RPM gauge shoots up and my car was going like 10mph. So, I decided to shut it off and restart it... Bad call. I must have got the engine wet or distributor cap or something because it would NOT start for the life of me... So I left it to dry out and it has finally stopped raining. Hopefully... tomorrow I'll be able to go and get it started and drive it home and I won't have any more problems.
On a side note... tonight at work while closing my friend and co-worker Will and I were closing the back of house and he accidentally spilled a whole six-pan of button mushrooms all down the front of me. I mean my legs and apron got drenched... and my phone was in my apron. So, now not only does my phone not work I still smell the stench of button mushrooms and I don't have my car. My luck has officially ran out.

Redskins and Murphy's Law

So yesterday started out fantastic! I got license plates for my car and everything was legal. I could drive it all around town with no worries. Katie invited me to watch the Redskins game with her friend Melissa and her. We had spinach dip, pizza, and cupcakes that Katie and I made. It as a good night.

Very fun... until... I hit a curb while trying to figure out which way to go on the highway. As soon as we get to Katie's parents I look at Katie and was like, "did you hear that hissing sound?" she said, "yes I hear it, I think your tire is leaking air." It was indeed leaking air. So, we went to the gas station and filled it up then proceded to drive on the highway. We get about half a mile and I feel the tire is completely flat. So Katie called her boyfriend Tom and we had to drive about 10mph to the closest exit (about 2 miles away.) It was a high stress situation, and I had a spare which was good, but no wrench or car jack. So, after and exchange of not so friendly words with Katie and Tom I decided to leave my car where it was and I had to go there this morning and pick it up... after buying a car jack and wrench. It was hot and gross while changing that tire. Amber was nice enough to take some pictures for me.

I now have two new front tires and "Susie" (my car) is back in business.

America's Best Places to Live

When I tell people I'm from Kansas they immediately imagine Dorothy, cows, and tornados... but according to yahoo's top story of the day Kansas isn't so bad. Told ya so.

No. 9: Overland Park, Kans.

Population: 166,700

Miles from Kansas City: 10

Typical single-family home: $275,000

Job growth since 2000: 16.8%

Pros: Reasonably priced housing, great job market

Con: Sometimes feels a little too planned

Overland Park’s flat terrain and grid layout don’t provide much drama, but for its residents, reasonable housing prices, good jobs and proximity to Kansas City, Mo. are excitement enough. “I’ve had a lot of opportunities to move,” says Chris Price, 46, a manager at an engineering consulting firm, “but the quality of life has always kept us here.” The city (where Sprint Nextel employs 12,000 people) recently began building a dozen soccer fields to host national tournaments—good news for local businesses. There are six major medical centers here too, and schools are among the best in the nation. Happily, development hasn’t paved over the green space: The Arboretum and Botanical Gardens covers 300 lush acres, for example.

Road Trippin'

As some of you may or may not know about a week and a half ago I went up to Boston for a visit. My friend Sam and I then flew to Kansas on Mother's Day and drove her car all the way back to Boston. It was an awesome time and I have a lot of great pictures...

Back Bay Fens. Gorgeous Trees.

I got to see Mom even if only for a couple of hours.

First Stop... Indianapolis. The hotel clerk gave us a great room with a view.

Sam in downtown Indy.

Then onto Buffalo, NY. I don't recommend it.

Then randomly we saw a sign for Palmyra and had to check it out.

Sam rediscovers her favorite childhood plant. Elephant leaves of some sort.

So do I.

We like this grove. Let's get to Boston already.

We made it. 21 hours total. Broken up into a 3 day adventure. One speeding ticket (Ohio) Sam was driving, maybe some toll tickets coming our way (we forgot we needed cash for tolls in MA so EZpass lane illegally... ha. oops.)

Chipotle

Today Audrey and I were leaving Gymboree and she looks at me and says, "we going to chipotle now." How can I say no to that? So we went and she looked so cute eating guacamole and chips. I love that we both love Chipotle.

Quote of the day

So sorry i haven't posted in a while, but I've been busy with work and school and blah blah blah. Anyways, I'm reading this book, What Dreams May Come, and I came across a line I really liked. It says, "That which you believe becomes your world." I agree. Boring post? Maybe. Thought provoking? I hope so.

IHOP

I always tell myself IHOP sounds like a good idea, but then always ends up being a bad call.
Well, last night Kara and I thought it was a good idea. It was cold, and she claimed they had good hot chocolate. That is a fact. IHOP does have good hot chocolate. Unfortunately, we ordered food to go along with it. Bad call. Halfway through our meals we were seriously grossed out and just wanted to get out of there. However, we did manage to squeeze in a little photo session.
