Dear Old Friend

For some reason, today I began thinking about an old friend I used to have. Her name was Abigail Green. Abby lived next to the house that was directly behind mine. We had a gate in our backyard that led to the neighbors and she had a gate to her backyard. So, every day we would play together. Going in and out of the neighbor's yard to get to each other's. We would climb trees all day. I remember once attaching a hammock to the tree in the neighbor's yard the one adjoining mine and Abby's. They didn't mind, or if they did it didn't stop us anyway. We would climb the tree and take turns in the hammock for hours. Any game we could think of we would play it. Titanic was this game where we would pretend we were on a ship and eventually it would crash. We would use beanie baby's as our other passengers on the boat. We played Titanic in Abby's backyard on her swing set. That swing set was awesome. It had a crow's nest... you know one of those platforms up top with a ladder and everything. We also played Titanic on her deck and patio. Lots of make believe took place in that backyard. We used to jump on my trampoline every day in the summer, and in the winter we would put on multiple layers of socks and tie plastic bags around our ankles. Sometimes we would move the trampoline closer to my patio and jump off the awning onto the tramp. Abby was my BEST friend and I was hers. She was like a sister to me. My family was hers and hers was mine. We were inseparable. We'd tip couches over and make them into forts. Hanging blankets over the tops and stacking as many pillows as we could find. She even helped my mom and I pick out our dog Tucker from an animal shelter. I remember her and I trying to come up with names we could name him.. like Noodle. Ha. Eventually we decided to stick with his original name. We made a secret fort in her basement once. It was our secret club. I'm sure we had a name for it, but I can't remember. We hung up sheets on the walls to make it look nicer and stocked it with stuff animals. O man, I just remembered... we used to make videos too. We had a series about these superheros. Cow and Chicken. She was Cow and I was Chicken. Her special weapon was a marker... and she called it her SUUUUper Stench. I don't think my chicken character had a special power, but I do recall wearing a ponytail on top of my head and doing a dance to "bawk bawk chicken chicken bawk bawk chicken head" (some rap song that farrah probably introduced us to.) We used to sing songs to her dog Pete. They went someting like, "Petey Wetey. You are the cutest puppy wuppey. I love you Petey." I could probably write a book about mine and Abby's friendship, but I'll stop here. I just felt like reminiscing about the good old days. Back when we were both so innocent. Abby goes to KU now and is all grown up. But, I'll always see her as the little sister I never had. She made my childhood fun and exciting. We went on so many adventures together and I'll never forget her. I love you Abigail Green, wherever you are.
